Captain of the Senior National team of the Black Stars have come under serious criticism for wearing a customized armband with his image on it.
Asamoah Gyan who wore a customized armband in the Ghana Black Stars clash against Ethiopia on Sunday 11th June 2017 violated the FIFA regulations on arm band.
Under the FIFA regulations on special equipment, session 20.3 which states that, “captains armband shall remain free of, and shall not produce,in FIFA's discretion,the visual effect of a Manufacturer's identification, a sponsor, any Decorative Element or further elements, except the word “captain” or
an abbreviation or translation thereof". Clearly per the rule the Captain have breached that session.
Many critics asserts that Asamoah Gyan should be cautioned since he may not be aware of the rule surrounding the captains armband.
Others also argued that he should be sanctioned to serve as deterrent for other players.

Asamoah Gyan's substitution during the match created attention when the assistant Captain Andre Dede Ayaw was provided with a different armband who eventually handed over to Harrison Afful when he came he was substituted by his brother Jordan Ayew.
Some fans are calling upon the team to stay focused on the task ahead than to dwell of the Captaincy which have for ones in history created division or factions in the Stars Camp in the early 80’s and 90’s.
Unity and together have always been the force that have sustained the team over the years.
Meanwhile, Ethiopia lost to Ghana by 5 goals to nill.
