The
Confederation of African Football has confirmed the increase of participating
countries from 16 to 24 teams in the AFCON 2019. This confirmation came up after the two –day
symposium on African football, themed: ‘African
Football: Our Vision’ which ended in Rabat, Morocco on Wednesday 20 July 2017.
The
President of CAF, Ahmad Ahmad added that the tournament would be held in June and
July to enable major clubs especially the European clubs to release the African
players for the event.
Many
sports critics believes the event would pose much challenge on the next country
that is Cameroon to host all 24 teams in the country by 2019.
Meanwhile,
the two-day symposium was attended by CAF’s 55 Member Associations Presidents
and General Secretaries, broadcast partners and the stakeholders in the
Football fraternity in Africa. The event was organized at International
Conference Centre Mohammed VI in Skhirat in Morocco. The Extra –Ordinary
General Assembly CAF meeting will come of at Rabat on Friday 21 July
2017.
