PHOTOS: Prof Mawutor Avoke's brother fires back at Hard at Afenyo with a writeup

Social media has gone wild with the ongoing debate whether the incumbent Vice Chancellor of University of Education Winneba, Rev. Fr Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni should step down for Prof. Mawutor Avoke after Supreme Court quashed the judgement by the Winneba Court presided over by Justice George Atto Mills - Graves.

Member of Parliament of Efutu  and lawyer Alexander Afenyo Markins according to reports alleged to have mentioned that Prof. Avoke’s dismissals together with four (4) others was in the interest of the University when he rejected accusations from Lawyer Raymond Atuguba who expressed that the government targeted Prof. Avoke  on the basis of  ethnicity according to Daily Graphic.

The heated agreement on social and questions raised about a native occupying the VC positions, raised several eyebrow of the general public which experts believe are not necessary particularly on ethnicity. This and other comments prompted the brother of Prof. Avoke to release his piece on social media.

Prof Mawutor Avoke's brother writes:

I have been thinking of the happenings at UEW. Let me start off with some historical capsules. In the 1960's my father who had completed University of Ghana, Legon was recruited to go teach at the Advanced Teachers Training College. He later on became the head of the history department. My mother was then a student at the Winneba Specialist College.
We all grew up in Winneba as babies and children. Since Mawutor and I were the older two, we spoke Efutu fluently and had so many friends in town. Winneba was the only home we knew. Later on my mother became a teacher at the Anglican primary school. I attended Winneba prep school and Mawutor followed my mom to the primary school. We took Winneba as our home until my father became a member of Parliament during the Busia Regime. We then had to leave for Accra. However, three of my uncles and aunties remained behind because they were attending Winneba secondary school and John Boscos Middle school. We lived in Accra till Acheampong's coup and my father and other MPs were kicked out of government.

Why am I saying all these? We have heard the Efutu MP saying that UEW is for the local people. What I want to say is that we have more roots in Winneba than the Efutu MP. In addition to haven lived in Winneba for a long time, after Mawutor completed his graduate studies, he could have gone to any University to work. However, because of our childhood days and friends that we had made as kids, he decided to go to Winneba. Winneba Advance and Specialist college later on became UEW.  Mind you, this was a period that the place was not attractive. And for a young graduate to decide to go there meant a lot.
The Efutu MP , Afenyo probably does not know that our father was also a Member of Parliament. Winneba meant so much to us to the extent that it was always my first stop after I arrived in Ghana from the USA. I use to, on pro bono basis teach students, assist faculty with innovative ways to improve teaching and guided them through the publication process into reputable journals in the USA. I can go on record to have assisted several faculty members to get publications in USA journals that were not predatory. We have spent more years in Winneba than even our village in the Volta Region. Winneba was our first home. We have our official residences in Winneba and we still have friends that we grew up with as kids.
For some people to all of a sudden wake up because their ancestral spirits poured water on them to say that Mawutor Avoke is not Efutu or Fanti enough to be VC is rather ridiculous and insane. It is the thinking of those whose celebrum is filled with hate, envy and tribalistic idiotic venum. Should Markins read this, he should know that Mawutor came to Efutu land long before he was born. And should also know that, once upon a time, our father was also a member of Parliament. But MP's do not stay in power forever. It's only a matter of time that reality will hit you like a hot brick  on your face. Enjoy torturing an innocent man.

Your days will surely come. Karma is a bitch.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court presided by 5 Judges unanimously quashed the judgement, held that, the High Court breached the rules of natural justice by failing to give the defendant a fair hearing according to Daily Graphic
