TIDBITS ABOUT VANDAL CITY - ALHAJ RAZAK EL-ALAWA

Alhaj Razak El-Alawa is one of those students who entered Commonwealth Hall and never left, figuratively speaking.

Alhaji was admitted into the University of Ghana in 1967 for a B.A.(Honours) degree course in History.

He was Editor of the Commonwealth Hall “ECHO” during his undergraduate years. He returned to the Hall on 1973 as one of the pioneer students for the Diploma course in Communication Studies. He then became Editor-in-Chief of the ECHO and also Secretary of the Junior Common Room(JCR).

He was the OVA National President from July 2011 to July 2015. He had, until his election as the National President, been the President of the GAR Branch of OVA.

Alhaj Razak worked the DAILY GRAPHIC from  1974 to 1979.
As a journalist, he set records which, I strongly believe, cannot be equalled, much less broken by any journalist in the country. He won the Ghana Journalist of the year Award in 1975 and 1976. He was runner-up in 1977 and won the top Award again in 1978. As part of his prize, he went to a newspaper establishment at Liverpool.

Between 1979 and 1981, he was Presidential Press Secretary, Office then President Hilla Liman. He later became Editor of the “GHANAIAN DEMOCRAT”. He has also served as a Member of the Board of Directors of GOIL. He has also written a three-part article on the Hall and its products, with positions occupied by them.

Alhaj Razak El-Alawa has been, and continues to be, inseparably attached to Vandal City. He has hardly missed the Hall's Annual Jamboree, or trips undertaken by OVA for various purposes such as funerals or social events.

He is a true son of Commonwealth Hall(Vandal City).
He is 75 years old.
