The Bank of Ghana has issued a statement outlining some of the unfair fees among others. In their recent release, the Secretary to the Bank of Ghana, Madam Sandra Thompson indicated in the Statement.
"Banks and SDIs are directed to desist from charging “Account
Maintenance Fees” on savings accounts. This ban however, does
not include charges for services provided by banks and SDIs with
the explicit prior subscription by customers."
Meanwhile, many customers have shared their experiences of over some charges by some of the banks which affects their savings. With the positive efforts of promoting financial inclusion by the Central Bank and ensuring the general public have confidence in the banking system to allow them to keep their funds at the bank, such charges inhibits that efforts.
