Progress at Legon Campus as Sports Minister Meets New Vice Chancellor 


Hon. Mustapha Ussif led a Delegation  from the Ministry of Youth and Sports    paid a courtesy call to the 

Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo.  



The visit was to discuss Ghana's plans to use the University of Ghana as the main hub for the 2023 African Games.  Even though the University of Ghana and the Ministry of Youth and Sports are yet to release a joint official Press release, there is indication that University of Ghana will be a centre of attraction for the games. 


University of Ghana, under the Director of Sports,  Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu demonstrated that with the facilities and some previous Games hosted by the University,  Legon can be a hub for the games. 


The Delegation  later inspected ongoing projects particularly the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, and other  facilities on Campus. 



Some of the facilities receiving some facelift were the soccer pitches,  hockey pitch, Rugby Field,  lawn tennis among others.  


Mr. Gianluca Ramella, Deputy Manager, Consar Ltd , whose company is in charge of some of the projects explained some progress eventhough there were not definite timelines to complete all the ongoing project,  he assured the Delegation of their utmost commitment in delivering value to the University and Ghana as a whole.


Meanwhile, the Minister of Youth and Sports hinted on citifm that Government is fully committed to providing the needed support to Athletes in Ghana and had a Strategic Plan which will be launched soon.
