University of Ghana(UG) have been cited for contempt of court by an Application filed at the High Court, Accra and served on the officers include the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Amfo, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof Awandare, the Registrar, Head of Security and Head of IT.
According to the source, the contempt Application arose from an injunction which was dated 6th January, 2023 secured by 8 students over the University’s refusal to allow continuing students of Commonwealth Hall and Male students of Mensah Sarbah Hall occupy their residence.
Currently, additional 161 students have joined the suit regarding this new allocation of continuing students to expensive Halls and any students who is unable to afford is denied residence till they graduate from the University.
The University of Ghana after they were served with the Injunction issued some statements urging the general public to disregard the statement and subsequently deployed heavy security personnel to deny continuing students back to their Halls, where the electronic portal meant for the students to register were denied access eventhough the Court stated the "status quo " should remain.
Meanwhile, the University of Ghana has since not granted access to the continuing students and sources shows Commonwealth Hall have allocated some of the best to graduate students and some level 100s in the Hall.
