Students of the University of Ghana on 3rd April 2023 turned to the streets to demonstrate against what they refer as Accommodation Crises, high school fees, and insensitive to the plight of students by Management of the University.
Many students from Abra Spot in Accra marched through the independence Square and and expected to present their petition to the President of Ghana to come to the aid of Ghanaian Tertiary Students.
University of Ghana called on the Government to resume work of the various abandoned facilities on campus and also resume work , Commonwealth Hall Annex Project , restore the Status quote of Commonwealth Hall and Mensah Sarbah Hall male students back to their Hall.
Meanwhile, speaking to some of students, they expressed solidarity to their colleagues who have been admitted into the University of Ghana without Accommodation and are unable for pay the exorbitant hotel facilities.
"It's very sad. A Premier University like this have failed to solve this Accommodation problems. It was alleged that they admitted about 15,000 students into different programs this year with only about 6000 of these students were able to secure residence. Others were moved to city campus and distance education. The already existing facilities cannot accommodate the rise in the numbers and we urge the Government to intervene in this issues" Mavis, a student leader explained.
