Reks Brobby’s Story shoots-exposé ills in Ghanaian attitudes

In 1984 Olympic Games, Reks got to the semi-final stage and was ranked the fastest in Africa in 1987 with his personal best of 10.08 seconds. He was the first Ghanaian to be sponsored and stayed with Team Adidas for 13 years. He is now the Founder and CEO of Ghana’s Fastest Human, giving opportunity to the younger generation in athletics.

Many Ghanaians grew found of him when he played a significant role in CAN 2008, an event marked as a well organised event in the country. He was usually not seen at the spotlight until recently he showcased his ardent to developing the next fastest human for mother Ghana. This gave him more interviews, featured articles, meeting with stakeholders in sports industry and corporate Ghana, and recently meet with the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with some athletes.

What is described as unusual, often not payed attention to by Ghanaians but takes a daring person to speak about is the nagging attitude of “some” Ghanaian in all spheres of life. These are some untold stories yet literally eating us up and causing rot in our desire to be “citizens not spectators” as assessed by the President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his inaugural speech which later became a heated debate about plagiarism. Most Ghanaian joke around serious matters and take pride in unnecessary arguments which are seen as unproductive. They defend the wrong doings and call it politics and later sit in church and mosque and pray. “Our God is a loving God”

They criticize, sabotage the one ready to do good and praise the corrupt. Others mistakenly lynch the innocent and take solace in the wicked. Many see the wrong and keep quiet with fear of being victimize, while others move along with the hope of having “something small for the boys”. Well, such attitudes are often ignored. Now sex on the screens and we tell the kids close your eyes and stop watching the romance. Parents, what you may not be aware is the electronic gadget of the kids and how “well” they use them is amazing. The viral sex videos of the school children now should give you a clue. Lets save that for another discussion.

Ghanaians are known to be hospitable, playful at times, peaceful, and enjoy having sex. Hypocrisy will rebelliously down play our own intelligence. Creating bottle neck around leadership position and extorting money from the poor. Also, the values and tradition of Ghanaians are gradually and metaphorically decaying with lack of respect for the elderly but respect for the degrees and certificates. We show respect to the degree holder, with the PHD, MA, among others and disrespect the poor woman who serve such on the street and “ghettos”. We ignore the capabilities of the dedicated person and open up to the one with the “Titles”. They are all important. “Certificate will take you places, yes! but will not sustain you entirely. Your capabilities, humility and diligence will eventually sustain you.

Rek’s story highlighted a few aspect of the attitude of some Ghanaians in sports. A story he posted on his Facebook wall about the “Cruel Ghanaians and Hypocrisy”. Such stories will never trend. The people to share such stories may be seen as “Righteous”. Nonetheless, such people are the dedicated ones who want to make an impact in society. They want to stand up for the innocent. They desire to see Ghana as a better place. They will share this story. He concluded and inspired Ghanainss.Let us take a quick view of the exact story.

CRUEL GHANAIANS AND HYPOCRISY!!!
In 2003, Ghana was shortlisted with Libya as the hosts for the coming Africa Cup of Nations 2008, what we came to know as CAN 2008! A team was put together to get Ghana to win against Libya, we did and got the rights to host CAN 2008.
President Kuffuor put Dr. Kofi Amoah in charge of the whole thing and Rex Danquah was made the Chief Operating Officer to head the day to day operations while establishing a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to ensure a successful event.
In January 2004, the first person that was ever hired was Kofi Amoah's right hand at the time, Reks Kobolor Brobby, who had just moved to Ghana from LA the previous year. You can imagine the backlash and disgust from all corners against me......
"Govt appoints unqualified cronies to run LOC" in reference to my inclusion. "He has NO degree, is just an athlete and ONLY holds an O level cert, not even A level, how can anything good come out of him in such a HUGE job with all the responsibilities" they went on to say boldly.
I was reminded about this fact over and over everyday on the air waves but did I care? Kai, God was at work and I had on my versace crocodile skin so na min mine whiiiii:)
Kofi Amoah never gave up on me or gave in to the pressure, yankee trained and all and insisted on me there, coz as his right hand since LA, he had seen me in action executing huge projects with ease, even at the White House with then VP, Al Gore when I was at Operation.Hope with John Hope Bryant! John taught me about the importance of having a PH-DO and NOT a PHD and I am eternally grateful!
We immediately formed 13 sub committees at the LOC headed by Prof this and Doctor that, to make sure we were covered in all areas, by the way, guess what, as Deputy Chief Operating Officer for CAN 2008 in charge of ALL logistics and Operations, yes, that was the position given me, I was in charge of all of them, same O level grad, same 'erfing' kobolor! We went on to establish LOCs in all the Venues and built 4 stadiums to FIFA standards, Accra, kumasi, takoradi and female.
Come Feb 2008, 4 years later and with God's help, I had executed the job SO well that ALL sung my praises, including ALL the Professors and Doctors AND the mean Ghanaians who said all the nasty horrible things about me. I did so well that the Marketing and TV rights holder for ALL of CAF matches till 2023, a French company called Sportfive, who saw me in action the entire 4 years, not knowing my educational background but ONLY what they saw, made me their ONLY rep in Africa to date!!
Today, this same ordinary O level kobolor athlete has gone on to manage other major projects successfully, Citizen Kofi, Marcel Desailly Limited, Adidas and now Ghana's Fastest Human, going back to the SAME Professors and Doctors for Sponsorship as THEY now head Corporate Ghana! Could I have gone to them and been successful if God hadn't softened their hearts to give this kobolor a chance during CAN 2008?
So what is all this talk about a barber being put on a board ??? Do you know his works or you just see barber k3k3? Do you know the jobs your loved ones do abroad sending you foreign exchange?? Or that one is ok because they are abroad AND your peeps.......
Careful your hypocrisy doesn't keep you stuck chasing your tail over and over doing the same thing expecting change because of how small you think....
Isn't a barber human/Ghanaian?? Do you know what that barber has achieved to be able to get chosen??
You who are not just a barber/athlete/no degree/kobolor, how are you helping make this world a much better place???
If you think like them then shame on all your funky asses!!!
And yes, makaa maka!!
Merry Saturday guys....
