Just received several messages on WhatsApp and some selected
social media platforms which suggested I was trending! Really! "I mean
how?" “This can’t be”!
As thoughts literally raced
through my brains and the feel of adrenaline surged “Kuhuku hu ku!” through my
body, I wondered… “What have I done?” I wondered if I had tweeted something
really funny or wrong that would earn the hashtag “#Kamakazi or #Katiboom”,
making it to number one (1) on the chart on Twitter. This was just not
possible.
Then the unexpected happened. On one of my usual Thursday
afternoons, just as I was getting some files together at my office, “Kleen!
Kleen!” my phone bleeped. I just took a sneak peek at my screen and noticed
that all of the sudden 4600+ messages unread on WhatsApp! “That is unusual I
thought for a moment!”
Well, it might be the Senior Citizen WhatsApp page, or OVA Global
page or GUCCI SQUAD 2011, I thought to myself. Still, couldn’t figure out at
that moment! So I decided to read the individual messages. On the list of the
unread messages was my friend Enyonam, a passionate event organiser and social
media activist, who rarely texts unless she has an event coming up.
Out of curiosity, I downloaded it and saw a snapshot of a tweet
with an image of myself with April Reign, the celebrated Digital Strategist who
is also now the Senior Director of Marketing for Fractured Atlas. It was her
famous tweet #OscarsSoWhite, that chronicled an organic follower base of over
125,000 worldwide. I smiled and responded.
Then, CEO of Isports360, Dennis A. Ababio Jnr, also sent me a
series of WhatsApp status updates with that same images listed in no particular
order! “eii!” It was Social Media Week Trend!
I opened the rest of the unread WhatsApp messages and saw that
most of my friends had sent me the same images. This awesome image, tells a
compelling story about the massive impact of Social Media Week in the world and
it had captured me in a post on the Echo Twitter page, a creative marketing
agency which specializes in digital marketing, among others.
I tapped my WhatsApp homepage and responded to most of the
messages and opened my Twitter icon on my phone. I clicked on the #SMWAccra
link. Unfortunately, it was rather Social Media Week trending and not me in
person. Lol!!
There I stood together with April Reign, as our attention was
focused on my laptop which created a beautiful advert and fans retweeted as
well as shared. Nice! I exclaimed. I smiled broadly and thought about this
piece, “Was It a serendipitous trend ? From nowhere to somewhere!
#SMWAccra gets better and is an amazing moment to use @Twitter
effectively as well as other platforms to enhance your interest in the society.
"Are you doing Business, Politics, Sports, or anything which
requires audience/customers? Be part of this amazing experience!" That was
exactly how everything started! Lololol….
